Islamabad, April 19, 2025 – Pakistan experienced yet another earthquake today, the third one in just a week. The tremors were strong enough to be felt in several major cities including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore, Peshawar, and different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. According to seismologists, the earthquake had a magnitude of 5.9 and its epicentre was located in the Hindu Kush mountain range of Afghanistan at a depth of around 94 kilometres.
As the ground shook, people rushed out of homes, offices, and schools in panic. Fortunately, there have been no reports of casualties or property damage so far, but the frequency of these earthquakes has raised growing concern among citizens and experts alike.
Scientists believe that these repeated tremors could be a sign of mounting pressure beneath the Earth’s surface, potentially leading to a stronger quake in the near future. They urge people not to take these warning signs lightly. Pakistan is located in an active seismic zone, and in the past, we have witnessed devastating earthquakes that took thousands of lives. This makes it all the more important for everyone to remain cautious and prepared.

In situations like this, awareness can save lives. People should know how to protect themselves during an earthquake—drop down, take cover under something sturdy, and hold on until the shaking stops. Avoid standing near windows, walls, or anything that might fall. After the tremor, if you feel unsafe indoors, move to an open area.
It’s also wise to keep emergency supplies at home, including a flashlight, first aid kit, bottled water, and non-perishable food. These simple steps can make a big difference in a crisis.
These recent quakes are a reminder from nature that no matter how advanced we get, we are still vulnerable to natural disasters. We must act responsibly, stay alert, and take care of ourselves and those around us. May we all stay safe, and may God protect us from any greater harm.
