The son of Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani, Abdul Qadir Gilani, was robbed in the middle of the day by thieves in Barcelona, Spain. While he was sightseeing with his family, some unknown people snatched an expensive gold-plated watch from his wrist and ran away.
The watch is worth about 56,000 Euros today, which is equal to 1.8 crore Pakistani rupees. He had bought it about 12 or 13 years ago when gold was much cheaper. Luckily, he was not hurt during the robbery.
Speaking to the media, Abdul Qadir Gilani explained that although it is religiously forbidden for men to wear gold, he kept it with him as a precautionary measure during his travels so it could be sold in an emergency. He stated, “The watch was on my wrist when it was snatched. We were with our family, but thankfully, our lives were safe.”
Abdul Qadir Gilani belongs to a well-known political family from Multan. Two brothers from the Gilani family, Abdul Qadir Gilani and Qasim Gilani, are currently members of the National Assembly, while their third brother, Ali Musa Gilani, has served as an MNA in the past. Their brother, Ali Haider Gilani, is a Pakistan Peoples Party MPA in the Punjab Assembly.
Interestingly, Qasim Gilani and former MNA Ali Musa Gilani are twin brothers, both born on April 10, 1986. This makes for a unique case where one twin brother is a current member of the National Assembly.
